Brain Chip Put in First Human by Robot

Brain Chips: New Medical Frontier or Science Fiction

The first brain chip was surgically implanted into a human brain on Sunday, January 28, 2024. This sounds more like a science fiction movie than real life, but it happened. To make it sound even more science fiction, the chip was installed by a robot!

The company responsible for the chip “Neuralink“ is a start-up company by Elon Musk. Musk announced the operation in his X (Twitter) feed after the operation. This first product by Neuralink will be called "Telepathy" . According to CNN news, Telepathy will be used to help people that have lost limbs.

A monkey died in 2021 during testing but this last May the FDA gave clearance for clinical trials of the Telepathy brain chip.

The Telepathy brain chip works by sending signals from the brain to an app. The goal of the medical field and Neuralink, is to give those without arms or hands, a way to control a computer or keyboard using their thoughts alone!

Will this work on humans? Only time will tell, however, if there is a way to help those who have lost limbs have a more productive life, then it's worth trying.

Science and technology are growing by leaps and bounds in the medical field, and this could vastly improve the quality of life for many people.

CNN says that as Elon Musk gives them updates on the operation they will have updates.
