Police: Freeport man arrested for fatal North Lawrence hit-and-run

A Freeport man was arrested for a fatal hit-and-run that happened in North Lawrence.

Police say 35-year-old Melvin Deleon struck 34-year-old Esmeralda Larios-Perez, of Inwood, on Dec. 12, 2023.

They say Deleon failed to stop and continued driving.

Larios-Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.

I took my son and daughter to get dinner on this night , we happen to see the out pour of ppl standing there in disbelief. That poor woman's body was out there for hours while the investigated the crime. Her family where asking everyone they could if they had seem anything. luckily 1 person had seen her get hit and this heartless soul speed off. I'm glad he's been caught hope he gets the max. She was a person not an object. Mo one deserves to die like that.

I was hit by a vehicle in lindenhurst South wellwood avenue on the vehicle where is the slogan Royal Coach limousines it was a hit and run a black Mercedes SUV anybody with information on this I would appreciate it
