Support experiential STEAM education opportunities for Tillamook County K-12 students by becoming a volunteer STEAM Coach!

This Volunteer STEAM Coach Training is for new and returning volunteers who want to support environmental education school programs for Tillamook County students in Spring 2024.

Across the county, a partnership of 20 local organizations works together to provide various STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) programs to Tillamook County K-12 students. Together, the TC STEAM Partnership offers students numerous experiential education programs including environmental science field trips, farm-to-table school gardens, science fairs, cultural programming, research projects, professional development, and more. Each year, hundreds of students participate in these programs, which are made possible by volunteer STEAM Coaches.

In order to offer these community-enriching programs, the TC STEAM Partnership needs volunteer STEAM Coaches to fulfill numerous volunteer roles. STEAM Coaches are people who believe all students should be able to learn about STEAM subjects through educational experiences that are hands-on and inquiry-based.

This training will include an orientation session for new STEAM Coach volunteers, a discussion group focused on past volunteer experiences for returning STEAM Coaches, a catered lunch, and hands-on demonstrations of upcoming field trip activities.

    Hands-on Activity Demonstrations may include:

    • Clam Investigation on Tillamook Bay

    • Marine Animal Identification

    • Wave Energy Presentation

    • MATE Underwater Robotics

    • Air Dry Clay Fossil Activity

    • Coastal Animal Traits Activity

    • Solar Powered Cars Demonstration

    When: Tuesday February 13, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Location: Garibaldi Historic US Coast Guard Boathouse

1209 Bay Lane Garibaldi, OR 97118
