Fitness Friday is a popular weekly segment featured on The Rashad Richey Morning Show every Friday, where Coach Q offers expert guidance on fitness advice and tips to kick off your week. During this past episode, the topic of the hour garnered high demand as listeners were keen to learn about handling fitness setbacks.

Coach Q starts by highlighting a pioneer in global wellness for black people, Dr. James McCune Smith , who was the first black American to obtain a medical degree. This month, Coach Q plans to feature a different pioneer in global wellness every Friday to inspire and encourage individuals to learn more about their contributions to the medical community.

When discussing the body's response to getting back into shape, Coach Q emphasizes the mental aspect of the process, stating that it's all about how one perceives it, understands it, and their relationship with it. He notes that everyone is different and that it's essential to connect with each client to determine how to structure their workout routine. He stresses the importance of varying the workouts, making the routine engaging and avoiding boredom.

In terms of the body's response to getting back into shape, Coach Q explains that cardiovascular health deteriorates after about two weeks of not exercising. Although strength isn't significantly affected until eight weeks after stopping physical activity, Coach Q recommends avoiding prolonged periods without going to the gym. He suggests taking short gaps instead and trying low-impact physical activities to give your body a break.

When it comes to the positives of being sore, Coach Q explains that the feeling shows that you've done something outside of your comfort zone and varied your workout routine. He notes that for athletes, being sore can sometimes be an indication that they've had an intense workout. However, he states that it's essential to find the proper balance between pushing oneself and over-exertion.

While focusing on physical fitness, Coach Q draws attention to the youth in the black community. In March, Coach Q's non-profit, The Fitness Ranch, is launching a mentorship program for young black men. The two-day-a-week program will encourage and educate young black men between the ages of 10-17 about the importance of health and wellness in their lives. Coach Q's non-profit is looking for sponsors to help make the program accessible to those who can't afford it.
