Successful Rescue Operation Saves Three Adults and Two Dogs Stranded on Santa Ana River Island

Riverside, Calif. - In a swift and coordinated effort, the City of Riverside Fire Department successfully rescued three adults and their two canine companions from an island within the Santa Ana River Bottom.

The incident unfolded on the morning of February 5, 2024, at the Van Buren Bridge crossing, prompting the closure of the northbound traffic lane.

The emergency response was triggered when authorities received reports of three individuals stranded on an island within the Santa Ana River. The City of Riverside Fire Department promptly dispatched two water rescue teams, supported by the expertise of AMR (American Medical Response).

The rescue operation concluded without any injuries to the civilians or the dedicated fire department personnel involved. A total of 26 personnel, including five chief officers, were assigned to the incident, showcasing the city's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.

The closed northbound traffic lane on the Van Buren Bridge was a necessary precautionary measure to facilitate the rescue operation. As emergency responders worked diligently to retrieve the stranded individuals, the closure aimed to ensure the safety of both the rescuers and the motorists passing through the area.
