Bears Draft Could be as Easy as 1,2,3

    2024-02-06

It could be the most dynamic draft in NFL history.

Just when I had talked myself into the idea of the Bears trading Justin Fields and drafting Caleb Williams, the NFL landscape changes. Rumblings from Colin Cowherd’s show indicated that the Caleb Williams camp wasn’t thrilled about the idea of Caleb going to the Bears. The next day, Cowherd walked that idea back a bit, but the seed was planted.

Then, another bread crumb was dropped. Kliff Kingsbury seemed poised to sign as the OC with the Raiders, but at the last minute, changed course and signed with the Commanders as their OC instead.

Kingsbury was Caleb Williams QB coach at USC, and there are rumblings that the Commanders are Williams’ preferred destination.

The Bears are under no obligation to trade the number one overall draft choice to the Commanders, but if the Bears, Commanders and Caleb Williams play nice together, things might work out for all three parties.

That number one pick is worth a bundle. If the Commanders give what the pick is worth, I believe the Bears make the trade. An unhappy Caleb Williams in Chicago isn’t good for anybody.

So, the Bears trade down from one to two.

And the number two choice is also worth a ton

If the Bears decide to trade the second pick, they could build up more draft capital. Ideally the New England Patriots will have a specific QB in mind and trade up to get him. So, in the draft capital dream scenario, the Pats trade up. That puts the Bears drafting at three.

They could draft Marvin Harrison Jr., or trade down once again. While not likely, it’s not inconceivable the Bears could at one time own the first, second and third overall draft choices in the upcoming draft.

I haven’t researched it, but I believe that would be the only time in NFL history that occurred.

Surrounded by all that additional talent, I believe the Bears can win with Justin Fields at QB.

If the Bears don’t draft Caleb Williams, I think they might as well roll with Fields and a ton of extra talent.

Wow , if they pay what the number one pick worth ? What is giving up a 2 nd overall pick worth ! If they give more than a 3 rd rd pick plus the 2 nd overall ! That is no different flipping between 10 & 11 or 29 & 30 . If Washington doesn’t move up and another team moves up and takes him , he will flop and fade away ! I wouldn’t pick him and Chicago should trade to 3 and get a better haul in the end ! Trade down one at a time is silly unless Washington is stupid ! He sent out the smoke signal
