I’m not a Swiftie, the term used for those who love Taylor Swift.

I don’t dislike her, I’m simply not a huge fan of Taylor Swift’s music. I grew up on my parent’s music and then, when I was old enough to pick my own music, I fell in love with hip-hop. Taylor Swift’s music is very popular, but it isn’t my cup of tea.

When I have been online and come across clips of her being interviewed on the Graham Norton show or elsewhere, she has always seemed quite likable. Other videos I have seen showing her interaction with fans have been endearing. She seems nice.

I have also seen the footage of countless fans outside the stadium of her concerts singing along with her. These aren’t fans waiting to get inside, they showed up without tickets and just wanted to be near a Taylor Swift concert. Her fans are incredibly passionate.

I don’t love her style of music, but it is my understanding that when you see her singing on stage with a guitar, she is actually playing and singing. The music coming out of the speakers is music she is making in real time. I think she writes her own lyrics too.

She seems nice, she writes, plays and sings her own music, her fans adore her and she doesn’t get in legal trouble. Can someone explain to me why folks seem so bothered by her now that she is in the NFL spotlight? It doesn’t make sense.

Is it a matter of overexposure? Do people dislike any Taylor Swift discussion when they want to hear about blitz packages? Are they bothered by the camera showing her supporting and celebrating her man’s success? What would they prefer the camera show for that four seconds?

If they truly dislike her music, maybe it makes sense. I’m passionate about music too. If they are misogynistic, and are bothered by powerful women, it makes sense. Given her massive and motivated fanbase, she is a very powerful woman.

If they are bothered by seeing the NFL use women for financial gain but fail to promote them adequately within its own organization, it makes sense. Kudos to them for being so aware of the issues.

If it’s because broadcast producers, trying to get as many views as possible, show her laughing and dancing and celebrating after touchdowns, in hopes it will attract more sets of eyeballs watching, it doesn’t make sense. How someone who seems so vanilla can be so popular or polarizing? Please make it make sense.
