Robotics is considered the sport of the mind. Internationally, students join robotics teams to foster science and technology education through competition and collaboration.

ToborTech, Lake Oswego High School’s FIRST Tech Challenge team, brings that spirit of competition to Lake Oswego.

On Wednesday, Feb. 3, ToborTech secured its place at the upcoming Oregon State Championship by winning first place for the Inspire Award and the title of Winning Alliance Captain at the Silicon Forest League Tournament. These awards qualify ToborTech to advance to the statewide competition in Hillsboro in March.

“In a semi-final match, ToborTech achieved the 5th highest score globally, highlighting their robotics abilities,” the team said in an email. “This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for Tobor Tech, reflecting their commitment to innovation, teamwork, and excellence in STEM.”

The FIRST Tech Challenge is slightly different from the FIRST Robotics Competition. The robots, built like a rover, and the teams, closer to 15 students instead of more than 40, are smaller.

ToborTech will represent Lake Oswego at the Oregon State Championships on March 9 and 10 at Liberty High School in Hillsboro.
