Buttermilk Biscuit Recipe: Ready in under 25 Minutes

My family has had this recipe for generations. It is a great biscuit recipe that makes the most fluffy and golden brown biscuits and the bonus is they can be ready from start to finish in under 25 minutes. You will need the following ingredients:

1 cup of whole buttermilk

2 1/4 cups of self rising flour with 1/4 cup set aside

2 tablespoons of vegetable shortening

1 teaspoon of melted butter

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix together 2 cups of the flour with the shortening using your hand working until the shortening is in small pieces. Add the buttermilk and mix well using your hands. Rinse hands and dry and add the last of the 1/4 cup of flour over the biscuit dough. Put some of the flour on your hands and pinch off the biscuits and roll them and place them on a baking pan. I use a cast iron gridle to make mine. Place in the oven and bake for 16 - 18 minutes. Take out of the oven and brush with melted butter.

These biscuits are great just as they are, but they are especially great with sausage, bacon, egg, or jelly added. I make these up several times during the week and place in the refrigerator to use as a breakfast. Just heat in the microwave for 30 seconds and enjoy!

Note: If you enjoy Chicken Pot Pies, these are great addition. I just pat them out and place the individual biscuits over the pot pie filling and bake in the oven until the biscuits are golden brown.
