Almost 150 people hit the beach in Stamford on Sunday for the inaugural SoundWaters Super Splash.

The waters off Cove Island Park registered just above freezing, but that didn’t stop people from running in for a quick dip.

“My friend reminded me it was only temporary and now I feel like a million bucks,” said Aly Leventhal, a polar plunger.

SoundWaters aims to protect Long Island Sound from the impacts of climate change through research, school trips and beach cleanups.

“Climate change is real, it should be a lot colder today,” said Beth Spitalny, of Westchester.

The event raised $5,000, which will allow the organization to expand school programs. SoundWaters plans to make this an annual Super Bowl Sunday event.
