    McFarland boys basketball defeated by Stoughton

    Junior Mason Roe scored a season-high 13 points in a McFarland boys basketball 71-42 loss to Stoughton on Friday, Feb. 9 at Stoughton High School.

    Roe scored eight points in the first half and grabbed four rebounds. Junior Hayden Harrison made two 3’s to score six points, while seniors Kaden Meinholdt and Braylan Roder both added five points.

    Senior Andrew Kelley (4), junior Will Steinke (3), junior Brady Ochalla (2), junior Brady Krenz (2), senior Kaden Westphal (1) and junior Ben Forbes (1) also contributed for the Spartans.

    McFarland is 6-13 on the season and tied with Baraboo for fourth place in the Badger Small Conference with a record of 5-6.

    In basketball, you have to play until the clock hits zero.

    And while the Spartans’ couldn’t get their first two attempts at a game-winning shot to fall through the basket, senior Andrew Kelley continued to stick with it.

    Kelley eventually scored on an offensive putback as the final buzzer sounded to give the McFarland boys basketball team a 69-67 win over Baraboo on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at McFarland High School.

    With the game tied at 67 in the final seconds, McFarland looked for the winning basket. Senior Braylan Roder caught a pass from freshman Eli Krueger and cut to the basket. While Roder couldn’t get his layup attempt to fall through, Kelley grabbed the rebound and went up with a putback.

    While Kelley’s first shot didn’t go in, the senior guard got another chance after getting the offensive rebound. On McFarland’s third shot attempt at the win, Kelley got his putback to fall through for the win as the clock hit zero.

    Kelley led the Spartans with 19 points, scoring 14 points in the second half. Three other Spartans reached double figures with Krueger scoring 12, junior Mason Roe adding 11 and Roder contributing 10 points.

    Junior Ben Forbes recorded eight points, senior Kaden Meinholdt scored six points and junior Hayden Harrison contributed three points.
