Wilsonville senior Jasmine Brown finished first in the 170-pound weight class at the 2024 Special District 2 Girls Wrestling Championships, helping Wilsonville to a tenth-place finish as a team at McKay High School on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Brown ultimately claimed the title in dominant fashion, earning a fall just 41 seconds into the championship bout against Nuri Castillo.

The result against Castillo marked the third straight fall of the weekend for Brown, who ultimately forced an early stoppage in each one of her bouts on the way to the title.

Meanwhile, two other Wildcats found the podium on Saturday, as junior Isabella Quesada was runner-up in the 120-pound bracket and senior Sarah Middleton was fourth at 190 pounds.

After being defeated by Dallas’ Ella Byington in the second round, Middleton earned fall victories over South Salem’s Alex Wozniak and McKay’s Eleanor Uhlman to take fourth place, while Quesada carried two falls and a decision victory into the finals of the 120-pound bracket, where she fell to North Salem’s Mariko Sonis to take second.

Ultimately, Quesada, Middleton and Brown led the way as Wilsonville scored 68 team points to take tenth.

Meanwhile, at 110 pounds, Lakeridge sophomore Alaina Gates took second, falling to Dallas’ Polly Olliff in the championship match. Gates held off Ollie {span}—{/span} who was 37-1 on the season entering Friday {span}—{/span} for nearly five minutes, falling in 4:35 for an impressive second-place finish.

At 115 pounds, West Linn freshman Delilah Leusch finished fourth, earning a victory over McKay’s Yasmin Romero in the fourth-place match with a fall in 1:55. Leusch was one of just six freshmen in the 115-pound bracket.

Ultimately, the Lions tallied 24 points as a team to finish 22nd, while Lakeridge recorded 25 points, finishing 21st. With a whopping 244 points as a team, Dallas took first place, while McKay and McNary took second and third, respectively.

All state-qualifying wrestlers will be in action again Feb. 22, as the 2024 OSAA Wrestling State Championships get under way at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
