Painting has allowed the brush holder to run with their imagination and express themselves for ages. Mix that with a little bit of Wisconsin state pride and a dash of wintertime, and you get the Painting Winter Wisconsin class at Farwell Gallery.

On Sat. Feb. 17 at 1 p.m, artist Wendy McDonnell of “Set Apart Studios” in Watertown will be teaching a class in which participants will be provided with acrylic paints and wood cutouts of Wisconsin. All other necessary materials will be provided, and the finished product will be able to be displayed either inside or outside.

“It seemed like something different than the things we already have here,” explained gallery owner Kristen Ellis. “I like to have a lot of diversity and different perspectives on display to make it a more eccentric collection of art.”

Farwell Gallery has around 100 artists from around the country and world with their work on display, including 10 from McFarland ranging in age from ninth grade up into their 80s. The gallery also boasts international artists from Mexico, Canada and England. Ellis says she gets multiple applications every day from people wanting to show their work, and would like people to know that lengthy resumes are not required to be admitted.

Furthermore, the gallery hosts about eight classes a month depending on the instructors, and each class is roughly 16 to 20 people. Among some of the upcoming events are a glass on glass mosaic class taught by Ellis herself and a sloth painting class, which apparently is a commonly requested theme.
