The Yadkin County Board of Commissioners has declared February 20, 2024 as Dr. Todd Martin Day. Martin is set to retire from his role as Superintendent of Yadkin County Schools at the end of the month.

“February 20 will be a special day for Yadkin County to celebrate all that Dr. Martin has done for our kids and schools. Besides that, he has been a tremendous community leader and cheerleader. I am so happy that he will remain in Yadkin after his retirement and stay involved,” said Kevin Austin, Chairman of the Yadkin County Board of Commissioners.

Martin has served as Yadkin County Schools’ Superintendent since October 2013. He has more than thirty-three years of dedicated service to education as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, curriculum director, assistant superintendent and superintendent. He has played an integral role in the development of Surry-Yadkin Works, Shore Scholars, Lego Robotics, and the Yadkin County Education Foundation. Martin has brought higher-level education opportunities for teachers through partnerships with High Point University and North Carolina State University. He has brought scholarship opportunities for students to attend the YMCA Camp Hanes and other programs such as Seeds of Hope, Bright Beginnings and Christmas Blessings. Martin has served the community by serving as a Board member of the Yadkin County Community Foundation, Yadkin YMCA, YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, State Employees’ Credit Union, Yadkin County United Fund, the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce and the Community Collaborative for the Childcare Flex Plex initiative. He has served as a member on several boards, was selected as the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium Superintendent of the Year in 2023, and received the C. Kenneth McEwin Distinguished Service Award in 2021 from the NC Association for Middle Level Education Foundation. His profound impact on Yadkin County Schools is unmatched and his legacy will serve as a blueprint for those to follow.

Wayne Duggins, YCS Associate Superintendent, said, “Dr. Martin’s commitment to high quality, resilience in the face of challenges, and ability to bring out the best in those around him is a standard that will be hard to match. The countless hours that he has devoted to our team and the sacrifices he has made to ensure the districts success has not gone unnoticed. His contributions have left an indelible mark, and we are grateful for his mentorship and camaraderie he has shared with all us. We are excited to dedicate February 20th as his day, Dr. Todd Martin’s Day, well-deserved!”
