County Supervisors take care of housekeeping in docket meeting

BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday for their regularly scheduled Accounts Payable and Payroll Docket meeting scheduled twice a month. The meeting typically takes care of paying bills and minor administrative business.

District 1 Supervisor Jerry Wilson was not present for the meeting.

District 4 Supervisor Eli Ferguson asked about the county’s contributions to the Lincoln-Lawrence-Franklin Library. County Administrator Daniel Calcote informed him that a tax levy helps fund the library in conjunction with the other counties and the library is audited.

Supervisors approved the payroll docket without any questions or discussion. They approved accounts payable without questions or discussion. Board minutes from February 5th’s regularly scheduled board meeting were approved. Meal Count sheets for week 18 and 19 of FY2024 were approved. Payroll reports were approved by the board.

Lincoln County Chancery Clerk Alisha McGehee told the supervisors they needed to acknowledge the tax exemption for Rex Lumber and Brookhaven Pellets. She explained the county had sent everything to the department of revenue and it had been approved. Supervisors acknowledged the tax exemption for Rex Lumber and Brookhaven Pellets.

Next, the Supervisors approved a half page advertisement for The 2024 issue of Profile published by Brookhaven Newsmedia.

Lincoln County Engineer Ryan Holmes spoke to the board about an easement for replacing a bridge on Opelousas. The bridge is in District 5 Supervisor Doug Falvey’s district. Holmes explained the county had offered the Lincoln County School District $2,500 for the easement. Lincoln County School District countered by asking for $3,000 due to some timber they might lose in the easement.

“I’m okay with it,” Falvey said.

The board voted to approve the easement purchase. Next, the board voted to approve a 37.5 percent pay increase for Vicki Brill, court administrator for Judge David Strong.

Lincoln County Board of Supervisors will convene on February 20 at 9 a.m. for their regular business meeting. The board meets on the first and third Monday of the month unless a holiday such as Presidents Day moves the meeting to a Tuesday.
