Pilot Mountain man charged with murdering wife

PILOT MOUNTAIN — A local man has been charged by Stokes County authorities with the murder of his wife.

Sammy Roland Collins, 68, was arrested at his home on Knobview Lane in Pilot Mountain, where his wife, Tammy Lynn Hodges, 53, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound around 9 p.m. on Feb. 7, according to Stokes County Sheriff Joey Lemons.

Stokes County EMS attempted life saving measures but were not successful, Lemons said in the statement.

“The female was pronounced deceased at that time by medical personnel,” Lemons said. “Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division arrived, took over the investigation, and began to process the scene.”

Collins was ultimately charged with murder. He is being held the Stokes County Jail with no bond allowed.

“No clear motive has been established at this time, and the investigation is ongoing,” Lemons said.
