This has been a busy week with States giving their support to Texas on the border crisis. Several States are planning to send its National Guard and another State, this one a Democratic State, could soon join.

The Kansas House passed a resolution to urge Democratic Governor Laura Kelly to support Governor Greg Abbott.

Last month, Governor Kelly felt it was President Biden’s responsibility to support the border. She was asked in an interview if she would send the National Guard and said according to KSNT:

“The National Guard… on a state level… I’m the Commander-in-Chief… but when they go to the Border, they’re federalized and they’re actually responding to the President at that point.”
“The border issue is a federal issue, so if the President decides to federalize some Kansas troops, then they will go.”

On Wednesday, February 14, the Kansas House passed Resolution 6035 was about the influx of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to The Kansas Reflector, the resolution said it was an “invasion” and encouraged Kansas Governor Laura Kelly to offer “support and solidarity” with Texas. The House approved the resolution 80-40.

The House thinks it’s important to support Texas because the federal government is not doing enough to stop illegal immigration.

Senator Mike Thompson, R- Shawnee, said according to KSNT:

“I believe Governor Abbott needs to understand there are other states who are standing with him and that will step up.”
“Because the federal government, the 50 states, should be doing it through the federal protection of the border, which is not happening, not coming from the federal government.”

Indiana, Georgia, and Montana announced this week they were sending their National Guard to the border.
