Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis took the stand in her own defense on Thursday and defiantly attacked the defense attorney in the case for lying about her relationship with Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade , who works for her on the case.
Trump co-defendant defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant asked Willis how she knew Wade’s testimony was over.
“I heard someone yell. His testimony is done. It only makes sense to me that I would be your next witness. And, I am very anxious to have this conversation with you today,” a defiant Willis began.
Merchant went on to ask Willis if she was following the hearing, in which she and Wade are defending themselves against allegations of having an inappropriate relationship. Specifically the court is debating whether or not Willis dated Wade before or after she hired him.
“I did hear that the arguments this morning is ridiculous to me that you lied on Monday. And yet here we still are. And I did listen to that argument,” Willis replied.
Merchant went on to ask Willis if she spoke with Wade before their testimonies today.
Willis said they did not have a substantive conversation and added, “I read this motion, skimmed it or so. And, I’ve probably said some choice things to him about some of the lies that were told.”
“Okay, and been printed in the media because, you know, we used to be in a day in time where you had 60 Minutes and people they had stories and they verified information. And you had this great reporting, but it seems today that a lawyer writes a lie, and then it’s printed for all of the world to see,” Willis said, again attacking Merchant.
“So, you and Mr. Wade met in October 2019 at a conference?” Merchant asked.
“That is correct. I think you want to be a motion to try to implicate I slept with him at that conference, which I find to be extremely offensive. I stayed at that conference. Mr. Wade was my teacher. I did not meet him when he taught the class,” Willis hit back, adding:
I was standing outside talking to Lisa. Rita with a judge. Me and her were just having a conversation. Mr. Wade walks up and they hug each other. They have some brief conversation. She introduces us. I’m —
Merchant interjected to object and the judge then asked Willis to confine her answers to directly addressing the question.
Willis said again that Merchant’s accusations were “highly offensive, when someone lies on you. And it’s highly offensive when they say that you slept with somebody the first day you met with them. And I take exception to that.”
