THE FEMALE attorney who launched an investigation into former President Donald Trump's election interference is now being investigated herself.
As a result of the investigation into Fani Willis, and her personal relationship with the special prosecutor she hired in the case against Trump, many have begun questioning her educational background.
Twitter trolls came for her, with one saying "simply no way she's a law school graduate..."
While others have suggested that her degree just isn't authentic.
Where did Fani Willis go to law school?
Despite the current controversy, Willis is reported to have graduated from Washington D.C.'s Howard University cum laude with a BA in political science and government studies in 1993.
Not long after, Willis was accepted onto a law program at the Emory University School of Law in Atlanta.
Willis graduated in 1996 with a Juris Doctor - but has credited Howard University for having shaped her career.
In an October 2023 interview with The Hilltop, the district attorney mentioned how her school's internship in 1991 proved she was capable of the role.
At the age of 20, she had been given the job of lobbying congressmen to invest in the non-profit she was working for.
Which, she said: "Has benefitted me to this day because I still feel confident about communication with different people.
"Understanding that I was smart enough to have those conversations and deserved to be in the room."
Willis added that she interacted with lawmakers, persuaded them to help her, and that all of this has helped her legal understanding.
Where is Emory University and is it a good school?
Atlanta's Emory University was founded in the 19th Century, and has frequently ranked as one of America's best colleges.
In the U.S. News & World Report's 2024 Best Colleges report, Emory came in at a highly-esteemed ranking of 24th.
With hundreds of thousands of students vying for a place at the prestigious university, it has become increasingly difficult to get in.
The university has an acceptance rate of just 11 per cent - a stark contrast to the average American University's rate of 41 per cent.
What did Fani Willis do after graduation?
Fresh out of college, Willis began her career as a solicitor - prosecuting misdemeanors and city ordinance violations.
She quickly established herself and moved on to spend two decades as a prosecutor in the Fulton County district attorney's office.
Although she turned her hand to private practice and set up her own legal firm, the Law Office of Fani T. Willis, in 2018, she returned to the public sector soon after.
She was given the role of Chief Municipal Judge for South Fulton in 2019, and it was during her time in this position that she opened an investigation into the former President's election interference.
On August 2023, Willis charged Trump and 18 co-defendants in a 41-count indictment.
Trump was specifically charged with solicitation of a violation of an oath by a public officer, as well as violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act act.
Trump's co-defendant, Michael Roman, is now trying to get Willis disqualified from the case based on claims that she benefited financially from hiring a prosecutor she had a relationship with.
At the time of their relationship, it is believed that Willis paid special prosecutor Nathan Wade through her office, while Wade paid for vacations for the two.
Both Willis and Wade have acknowledged their relationship, but deny any conflict of interest or financial impropriety.
