Sun City West swimmers kick off the season in Tucson

Nine members of the Sun City West Masters Swim Group, a part of the Sun City West Sportsman’s Club, attended the 32nd annual Polar Bear Classic Feb. 4, along with their coach, Barb Sloan. The meet was held at the University of Arizona’s Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson and included 149 swimmers from Arizona and surrounding states.

Sun City West Masters Swimmers have made it a tradition to attend the meet as it kicks off the 2024 Short-Course Yards Season in Arizona.

The swimmers brought home 34 awards, representing first, second and third places. The women’s team placed third overall out of 16 participating teams. Many met their goals of reconfirming and reaching the United States Masters Swim National Qualifying Times for their age groups. Team members also swam events they were unaccustomed to swimming to get baseline times and a feel for the technique when racing.
