Earlier this month, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry visited the Texas border. Now, he made the decision to support Governor Greg Abbott and help secure the border.

Landry met with Governor Abbott and 11 other Republican governors as they met at Eagle Pass. Governor Abbott announced new plans to help secure the border as the Biden administration has pushed back.

Governor Abbott took over the park in Eagle Pass which Customs and Border Protection used. On January 10, Texas National Guard took over the park. Abbott believes illegal immigrants were using the park according to The New York Post.

Several states have announced they were supporting Texas by sending their National Guard to the border. Governor Abbott recently announced he was building a military base for the guard in Eagle Pass according to a press release.

While at the border, Landry said in a statement according to NOLA:

“When in trouble, our neighbors in Texas have always opened their arms to us. Now it’s time we return the favor."
"I look forward to working with our legislative leadership to find a way to send our National Guard troops to the southern border to support Texas."

Now Texas has formally send the request to the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact according to Spectrum News.

Louisiana plans to send 50 National Guard and some equipment to Texas in March. This will cost Louisiana approximately $3 million from taxpayer money.

Last month on X, Governor Landry wrote:

"Louisiana stands with Texas. Enough is enough."

Louisiana sends military support following other state governors who made the announcement last week. Other states include South Dakota, New Hampshire, Indiana, Georgia, and Montana.

Do you think there will be more or fewer illegal immigrants crossing the Texas border this year?
