MCFARLAND — The McFarland Public Works & Utilities Committee will host a public information meeting regarding the Exchange Street reconstruction project on Monday, Feb. 26.

Residents can attend in person by visiting the Municipal Center at the scheduled time or by joining via Zoom. More details regarding how to participate virtually are listed on the village’s web page for the meeting.

The information session will take place as a part of the already scheduled committee meeting. Residents in attendance will be presented with an overview of the project’s details and the be given time to ask questions and discuss possible concerns with village staff and the village engineer.

In the 2024 budget, the village listed the expenses for this project at roughly $4.9 million. The village will be receiving some funds from the Greater Madison Metropolitan Planning Organization to help with some of the costs related to the road itself, adding sidewalks on either side and stormwater. The village will be responsible for 100% of the water and sewer costs.

Nearly the entirety of Exchange Street from the Yahara River Bridge to the Farwell Street intersection will be redone for this project. According to the village’s website, construction will necessitate crews to have access to private properties as a part of the process. The access will be used to match existing lawns to the new sidewalk grade and remove or replace trees when necessary.

This access will be covered via the acquisition of temporary limited easements. Those whose properties will be affected should have already received communications from the village regarding this aspect of the project.

To learn more about this process, what Exchange Street will eventually look like and how the project came to be, residents can visit the village’s capital project web page .
