(670 The Score) Bulls forward Patrick Williams’ left foot injury turned out to be as bad as feared.

Sidelined since Jan. 25 due to bone edema in his left foot, Williams will need to undergoing surgery that will sideline him for the remainder of the season, the team announced Friday afternoon. The sides reached that determination after recent imaging revealed the progression of his foot stress reaction, the team said in a news release. Initially when Williams was sidelined, the Bulls announced he would be reassessed in two weeks, but coach Billy Donovan had recently hinted at what was coming when he indicated Williams wasn't making any progress in his rehab.

The surgery will cut short Williams’ fourth NBA season after 43 games, over which he made 30 starts and averaged 10.0 points and 3.9 rebounds in 27.3 minutes per game while also playing strong defense. He’s set to be a restricted free agent this offseason.

Details about Williams’ upcoming surgery will be announced at a later date.
