Nikki Haley Takes Hard Line on Immigration

    2024-02-24

Struggling to gain traction in the March 5 Texas primary, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley took a hard line on immigration.

This week, she took a firm stance on the issue of immigration, expressing concern about the increasing pressure on the nation's southern border due to migrant influx. Haley emphasized the need to deport millions of individuals currently residing in the country without authorization.

During a 13-minute interview on CNBC, Haley articulated her position on immigration, stating, "You have to send them back." She elaborated on her stance, highlighting the necessity of enforcing this measure to discourage others from circumventing legal immigration processes. Drawing from her background as an individual of Indian heritage, Haley underscored the importance of upholding lawful immigration practices, citing her parents' legal immigration to the United States.

Emphasizing the significance of border security, Haley outlined her comprehensive plan, which includes implementing a national E-Verify program mandating businesses to verify the legal status of their employees. Additionally, she expressed support for defunding sanctuary cities, augmenting the number of Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents by 25,000, and reinstating the previous "remain in Mexico" policy implemented during the tenure of former President Donald Trump.

Proposing a shift from the current "catch and release" approach to a "catch and deport" strategy, Haley emphasized the efficacy of deportation as a means to curtail the ongoing challenges at the border. Her overarching objective is to address the complex immigration issue by advocating for stricter enforcement measures and policies to safeguard national security and uphold legal immigration protocols.
