More spring-like weather is on the way today. It may be a chilly morning with lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s. However, southerly winds and today’s sunshine will help temperatures quickly rise into the mid-50s this afternoon. Temperatures today are going to be running more than 10 degrees above average for late February. Wind speeds will increase with gusts up to 25 MPH through the afternoon.

The quiet weather will continue this evening and overnight. Temperatures are not expected to drop as much as lows on Sunday morning. Lows should still fall into the upper 30s and lower 40s. There is also a chance for patchy fog to develop overnight and into Monday morning.

Buckle up, Indiana. The weather is going to be interesting this week due to large swing in temperatures, and we’re even monitoring a threat for severe weather. Highs on Monday will rise to near-record levels in the afternoon. The record high in Indy on Monday is 68° and the forecast is calling for highs in the mid to upper 60s. We even have a shot at 70° on Tuesday (Record: 73°)!

The spring-like weather will come at a cost. A strong storm system is going to bring central Indiana a threat for severe weather Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. The Storm Prediction Center has large portion of Indiana highlighted under a slight risk. Damaging winds will be the primary threat. However, isolated tornadoes and power outages are also a concern.

There is a sharp temperature gradient behind the cold front Wednesday morning. The timing for the cold front is key to temperatures trends on Wednesday. Mild weather is anticipated early in the day with temperatures in the 50s. When the boundary passes, wind speeds will ramp up as colder air blasts into the region. Any lingering rain showers will likely mix in with snowflakes late in the day Wednesday!
