Less than one year after the release of his debut studio album and sharing his single, “Pretty Little Poison,” with the world as an Audacy Launch artist , Warren Zeiders is celebrating his very first #1 at Country radio.

His success in Country music has been a wild ride for Zeiders, who initially had dreams of becoming a professional athlete and also pursued a career in medical sales. His direction changed after the COVID-19 pandemic hit and he started posting videos of himself singing and playing guitar on social media.

“The connecting piece is my manager,” Warren said of his big career shift. “He found me on social media and then reached out to me for months. This was when I wasn’t checking DM’s or anything because I was just posting videos for fun, I wasn’t trying to do this.”

Zeiders’ manager, Charly Salvatore , used his connections in the industry to get Warren on board and the pair hit the ground running. “He welcomes me to Nashville… he books me my first write because he knows people and has been in the industry for years and my first write was with Eric [ Paslay ]. It was Eric Paslay and Rob Crosby — we wrote ‘Ride the Lightning.’"

Just a few short years later, Zeiders released his debut album, Pretty Little Poison , and the journey to the top has been a fast one for Zeiders, who says he still finds it all puzzling at times.

“There's moments where your brain can't comprehend all of this,” Zeiders told PEOPLE during a recent interview, and with a story like his, we can see why.

While his rise to #1 may have happened a lot faster than most, it doesn’t mean it’s been easy for the 24-year-old who challenged himself by releasing a vulnerable song to let others know they’re not alone.

“It’s probably the hardest song I’ve had to write because of how close to home it hits,” he expressed. "[It’s] definitely the hardest song I’ve ever had to sing, it’s a song that’s kept me up many of nights when it came to recording this song because I felt, in my heart, this song needed to speak the truth…. I had to believe myself, first, before I put it out.”

While his pain is prominent in the lyrics, Zeiders says he finds it important to expose to create community and let fans know, “You’re not alone in this world.”

“I’ve been through it and there’s been countless other people who have been through it,” Warren said of the message he hopes the song spreads. “I feel like we all have a ‘Pretty Little Poison’ whether it’s a girl… or a guy or whatever it may be,” he continued. “It could be something you battle with in life. It’s something you know is not good for you and you continue to go back to it because it’s just too good to say ‘no’ to it.”

The song is surely just the beginning of what’s to come from Zeiders as he continues to ride his wave of success with a deluxe version of his debut album, Pretty Little Poison , available now.
