‘No, No, No, Absolutely Not’: Mitt Romney Says There’s No Way He’d Vote for Trump Over Biden

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) made clear on Wednesday night he will not vote for Donald Trump if the former president is the Republican presidential nominee, which is all but a certainty at this point.

Romney joined Wednesday’s edition of The Source , where Kaitlan Collins asked him if he agrees with Nikki Haley’s claim that Trump would be unable to defeat President Joe Biden if he is the nominee. Haley is hoping to topple Trump for the nomination, but she has not come close in any primary or caucus state.

“Yeah, I don’t necessarily agree with that. That’s a good campaign line, I’m sure,” Romney said of Haley’s claim. “But I think he could win. I mean, today it’s kind of a toss-up. But if the election were actually held today, I think he’d probably win.”

Romney went on to criticize Biden over his handling of border security and immigration saying that the president has made “extraordinary mistakes.”

“It’s embarrassing how bad he’s been,” said the senator, who also added that Trump “did some smart things” as president.

Collins pivoted to the general election, where a Biden-Trump rematch is likely:

COLLINS: But can I just ask, I think that those comments there may raise some questions for people watching at home. Would you vote for Donald Trump over Joe Biden?

ROMNEY: No, no, no, absolutely not. I mean, for me, there are two factors deciding who I want to have as the leader of my country and the person who is the example of the president for my kids, my grandkids. One is their position and policies. And on foreign policy, I’m not aligned with Donald Trump, at least as I understand his policy.

And domestic policy? Yeah, I align with many of his domestic policies. But there’s another dimension besides policy. And that’s character. And I think what America is as a nation, what has allowed us to be the most powerful nation on Earth and the leader of the Earth is the character of the people who have been our leaders – past presidents, but also mothers, fathers, church leaders, university presidents, and so forth.

Having a president who is so defaulted of character would have an enormous impact on the character of America. And for me, that’s the primary consideration.
