Packers Players Rank Matt LaFleur Poorly in NFLPA Report Cards
2024-02-29
This week, the NFLPA released its yearly report cards. They surveyed players from each of the teams, asking them to share their opinions in a variety of categories for their organization. In all, the Green Bay Packers scored extremely well on their report card, ranking third in the league.
This tremendous ranking for the Packers is due to the team not completely bombing in any one category like many of the other teams did. Performing average, or a little above average, is enough to grade extremely well in the end. However, there was one category that pulled the Packers' overall ranking down, and that is the grading of head coach Matt LaFleur.
Green Bay Packers Players Grade Matt LaFleur Poorly
If there is one area on the report card survey that raises concerns, it's how the Packers players graded their head coach, Matt LaFleur. Obviously, he has been a target of criticism for his lack of leadership and questionable decision-making for the past few years. This has seemingly shown up on the 2024 Green Bay Packers report card, as this is the first season this category has been added.
LaFleur ranked in the middle of the league in how players felt he used their time. However, the main issue cited was LaFleur listening to the locker room, or lack thereof. When reading this, one of the biggest topics that comes to mind is LaFleur, and Brian Gutekunst, keeping Joe Barry around until the offseason even though there were reasons to part ways and players voicing that concern. Of course, there are many other moments and issues at hand here as well.
While Matt LaFleur did not rank near last, which is good, ranking 21st is not where we want to be and clearly it was one of the main categories that pulled the Green Bay Packers' report card ranking down. With two of the three A+ ranked coaches being in the NFC North (Dan Campbell and Kevin O'Connell), it is something that shouldn't be ignored.
Hopefully, this will be a wake-up call for Matt LaFleur, and others, that he needs to do better in the locker room and listen to his players. If not, Green Bay could struggle to reach its potential in the NFC North.
