Green Bay Packers Report Card Shocks the NFL

    2024-03-02

The NFL Player's Association (NFLPA) has made it a point to poll players on their respective teams and publicly post the results in a "report card" over the past few years. Some teams receive a public shaming, nearly forcing them to make positive changes. Other teams, like the Arizona Cardinals, take their shame as a year tradition. The Green Bay Packers report card revealed an interesting insight into how the players feel about the team and organization as a whole.

The Packers have upgraded their facilities this past year in order to improve their report card grades for 2024. Some of these upgrades included underground parking and improved meeting rooms for players. Overall, it was a success, as the Green Bay Packers' report card grades ranked third overall. However, let's take a look at their grade in each of the categories.

    • Treatment of Families - C+ (10th)
    • Food/Cafeteria - B+ (6th)
    • Nutritionist/Dietician - B (14th)
    • Locker Room - B- (15th)
    • Training Room - B (11th)
    • Training Staff - B (16th)
    • Weight Room - A (7th)
    • Strength Coaches - A- (8th)
    • Team Travel - B+ (4th)
    • Head Coach - (21st)
    • Ownership - (6th)

Green Bay Packers Report Card Shocks the NFL

    Treatment of Family Facilities

One of the major categories in the Green Bay Packers report card where they struggled was the treatment of family facilities, though most of the league struggled in this regard and will be looked at as an area that should be improved leaguewide. It is a category that has been ranked in the past, so we can compare. So, last year, Green Bay had a B+ grade (No. 5 overall), but that has dropped to C+ (No. 10) this season.

While most teams in the NFL provide some sort of daycare at the facility on game days, the Packers do not. This is the biggest change the Green Bay players have said they would like to see, in this category. However, this was the major gripe last year as well and the Packers have not listened to this request.

Food, Nutrition, Nutritionist, Weight Room, Strength Coaches

These different categories on the Green Bay Packer report card are pretty closely related. Essentially, does the Packers' organization give players the tools, resources and coaching needed to have their body ready to compete on Sundays? The answer is yes!

Green Bay ranked near the middle or a bit above average in all of these categories. While it's nothing to brag about, not having serious issues in any of these areas truly is what separates the Packers from other teams in this survey.

Packers Head Coach - Matt LaFleur

If there is one area on this survey that raises concerns, it's how the Packers players graded their head coach, Matt LaFleur. Obviously, he has been a target for criticism on Lombardi Sweep for his lack of leadership and questionable decision-making for the past few years. This has seemingly shown up on the 2024 Green Bay Packers report card, as this is the first season this category has been added.

LaFleur ranked in the middle of the league in how players felt he used their time. However, the main issue cited was LaFleur listening to the locker room, or lack thereof. When reading this, one of the biggest topics that comes to mind is LaFleur, and Brian Gutekunst, keeping Joe Barry around until the offseason even though there were reasons to part ways and players voicing that concern. Of course, there are many other moments and issues at hand here as well.

While Matt LaFleur did not rank near last, which is good, ranking 21st is not where we want to be and clearly it was one of the main categories that pulled the Green Bay Packers' report card ranking down. With two of the three A+ ranked coaches being in the NFC North (Dan Campbell and Kevin O'Connell), it is something that shouldn't be ignored.
