    Lawrence cruised to victory in House 27B Special Primary

    by Jim BoyleEditorVoters in Minnesota House District 27B voted overwhelmingly for Bryan Lawrence over Rachel Davis in a Special Primary Election on Feb. 29.The Republican-endorsed Lawrence garnered 1,277 votes or nearly 91% of the 1,404 Republicans who voted. His challenger Davis got the other 127 votes or 9%.DFLer Brad Brown did not have a challenger in the special primary. He collected 98 votes from Democrats or 100%.Lawrence will now face Brown in a March 19 special election to replace the open seat left by Kurt Daudt, who resigned from the legislature effective Feb. 11.“Thank you to all of the voters who participated in the Special Primary Election tonight. We are humbled and honored to have won an overwhelming victory, winning all 18 precincts in House District 27B.In a press release, Lawrence stated voters told him they want the next State Representative to fight back against total DFL control of state government.“I am pleased our campaign to make Minnesota affordable again, oppose DFL efforts to make Minnesota a sanctuary state and defend our central Minnesota values was well received in every community in the district. We will build upon this victory and bring our message to voters across the district before the March 19 Special Election.”House 27B includes part of Isanti County as well as sections of Anoka, Mille Lacs and Sherburne counties, including the city of Zimmerman. The Star News emailed Brown in the wake of the special primary, and will report on his candidacy in a future edition of the Star News.Lawrence is a Township Supervisor and longtime Baldwin Township resident. He and his wife of 28 years, Marytina, reside on a Sherburne County family farm where they raise beef cattle. Lawrence also assists in managing two other family businesses including a home heating oil delivery business and a sod business.Lawrence’s government experience includes serving on the Baldwin Township board for over 20 years, including as board chair. During his tenure, he has assisted in the development of a volunteer fire department and is currently involved in the process of city incorporation for Baldwin Township.Additionally, Lawrence has served as chairman of Sherburne County Planning & Zoning, and as a member of County Board of Adjustment and County Waste Management Committees.Unofficial Results Thursday, February 29, 2024
