    Defiance County grand jury returns indictments against 14 persons

    A Defiance County grand jury has returned indictments against 14 persons, according to Prosecutor Morris Murray’s office.

    Indicted were:

    • Derek Alvarez, 37, Sherwood, for 10 counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, each a second-degree felony. Authorities allege that from Nov. 12, 2021-April 28, 2022, at a residence on Ohio 249 in Ney, he created obscene material involving a minor.

    • Kevin Nonhof, 60, Sheboygan, Wis., for two counts of felonious assault, each a second-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Feb. 16 outside of a business on Columbus Ave., Nonhof caused serious physical harm to another, and he also caused, or attempted to cause, physical harm to another by means of a deadly weapon.

    • Shanda Bullinger, 45, Paulding, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a third-degree felony; and OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor.

    • Jerry Stevens, 66, Archbold, for OVI, a third-degree felony; and assault, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Feb. 16 on Evansport Road, he operated a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was involved in a single-vehicle car crash. Authorities further allege that Stevens caused or attempted to cause physical harm to a law enforcement officer who responded to the scene. Stevens also has a prior felony OVI conviction.

    • Mark Rothman, 43, Holgate, for two counts of menacing by stalking, each a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that from Feb. 2-7 he engaged in a pattern of conduct that caused another to believe that he would cause that person or their family physical harm and/or mental distress, having had a prior conviction for menacing and a history of violence.

    • Steven Sheeks, 57, Continental, for aggravated trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine), a fourth-degree felony; and two counts of aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), each a fifth-degree felony.

    • Charlotte Beechboard, 47, Antwerp, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

    • Antonio Briseno, 61, 1983 Jefferson Ave., for four counts of violating a protection order, each a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that from Sept. 10, 2020-Oct. 4, 2023, while incarcerated, he violated the terms of an active protection order against him by attempting to contact the victim named in the order numerous times. Briseno also has a prior conviction for violating a protection order.

    • Amy Bonner, 43, Vanceburg, Ky., for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

    • Chad Johnson, 52, Bryan, for two counts of theft, each a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on June 19 he collected over $1,000 by deception to complete a project at a residence on Chelsea Drive, and then failed to complete the project or return the money.

    • Breck Rittenhouse, 37, 1038 Riverside Ave., for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony; and OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor.

    • Garrett Shreve, 23, Holgate, for improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Dec. 17, 2022 on Ohio 18 he transported or possessed a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle with him while he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and the firearm was accessible to him without leaving the vehicle.

    • Douglas Thomas, 32, 1687 Durango Drive, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony; possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony; and endangering children, a first-degree misdemeanor.

    • Austin Yant, 29, 701 Holly Glen Drive, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony; and OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor.
