    Eleven to participate in Distinguished Young Women scholarship program

    Eleven area teens will take part in the Distinguished Young Women of Pitt County scholarship program, to be held March 9 at South Central High School.

    One will be selected as Distinguished Young Woman of Pitt County and will go on to represent the area at next year’s state-level scholarship program.

    Participants include:

    Sophia Akhter, daughter of Pamela Akhter and Shahab Akhter. A student at Arendell Parrott Academy, she will perform a tap dance to “In The Mood,” by BBC Big Band.Ella Coggins, daughter of Jennifer Coggins and Chad Coggins. A home-schooled student, she will perform a lyrical dance to “Don’t You Worry, Child” by Madilyn Bailey.Aubrie Dash, daughter of Leigh Dash and Joey Dash. A student at D.H. Conley High School, she will perform a contemporary dance.Malory May, daughter of Paige May and Greg May. A student at Farmville Central High School, she will perform a contemporary dance to “Turning Tables” by Adele.Rylan Moore, daughter of April Moore and Michael Moore. A student at J.H. Rose High School, she will demonstrate American Sign Language in accompaniment to the song “This is Me,” by Keala Settle.Aryana Smith, daughter of Josephine Harris. A student at Farmville Central High School, she will perform a violin selection.Karissa Thurnau, daughter of Karen Demsky and Stephen Thurnau. A student at D.H. Conley High School, she will perform a tap dance to “New Romantics” by Taylor Swift.Emily Voos, daughter of Jennifer Voos. A student at J.H. Rose High School, she will sing “Make You Feel My Love,” written by Bob Dylan.Alaina Waldron, daughter of Crystal Waldron and Rob Waldron. A student at J.H. Rose High School, she will perform a lyrical, contemporary dance.Kaitlyn Wood, daughter of Patty Wood and Gary Wood. A student at Ayden-Grifton High School, she will perform a violin solo to “Remember Me” from “Coco.”Morgan Worsley, daughter of Dr. Monisha Adkinson and Christopher Atkinson. A student at D.H. Conley High School, she will perform a vocal selection of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by James Weldon Johnson.

    The program will begin at 7 p.m. March 9 at South Central, 570 Forlines Road, Winterville. Tickets are $23. Visit facebook.com/DYWPittCounty.
