Dr. Phil McGraw said Friday that, if President Joe Biden has nothing to hide about his age or mental acuity, then there’s no reason not to take a cognitive exam to show it.
McGraw appeared on the latest Real Time With Bill Maher on Friday night, and along with the other panel guests, took questions in the Overtime segment, which airs on CNN.
Host Bill Maher after introducing the guests opened with two questions for Dr. Phil, the first about President Biden.
“All right, here are the questions: Dr. Phil, do you think President Biden should take a cognitive exam?” Maher asked.
“If you got noth– People that have nothing to hide, hide nothing. So, why not?” Dr. Phil responded.
His answer was met with applause by the audience.
The president’s doctor performed a physical exam on the octogenarian this week and declared him “fit for duty.”
Dr. Kevin C. O’Connor concluded that Biden “fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations,” and that he is a “healthy, active, robust 81-year-old.”
The exam did not include a test of Biden’s mental acuity, however, and no reason was given for the omission.
Questions have swirled around whether Biden’s old age is affecting his ability to serve a second term in office, mostly due to public memory lapses, speaking gaffes where he has confused world leaders, among other things, and revelations such as the fact that many members of the White House press corps admitted to Puck News recently that “the symptoms of Biden’s age had become more noticeable in recent months and a frequent discussion topic at the desks behind the Brady briefing room.”
Concerns have also plagued former President Donald Trump’s cognition, since the 77-year old has had his own issues with recall and clarity, some of which his only remaining primary opponent Nikki Haley has pointed out (and been the subject of).
Trump has boasted that he “ACED” two cognitive tests, where he famously had to remember the words, “person, woman, man, camera, TV.”
The former President called on Biden to take a similar test to prove his cognitive fitness, posting to Truth Social:
Crooked Joe Biden must take a Cognitive Test. Maybe that way we would be able to find out why he makes such terrible decisions. I took two of them, and ACED them both (no mistakes!). All Presidents, or people wanting to become President, should mandatorily take this test!
In a recent interview, Dr. Phil expanded on his challenge to Biden, saying, “Cognitive ability [and] cognitive agility can be defined objectively — such as memory and working memory, [which is] the ability to comprehend, put sentences together, express yourself. All of these things are very measurable and if you really had nothing to hide, I think you would hide nothing.
“If you had no problem with neurological deficits, wouldn’t you want to crow about that? Wouldn’t you want to have a transparent neurocognitive examination and show the world that was the case?” he asked.
