This was a busy week for Governor Greg Abbott. While hosting Donald Trump in Eagle Pass, a federal judge struck down Texas Senate Bill 4 saying it caused harm to the federal government.

U.S. District Judge David Ezra said according to the Texas Tribune:

“SB 4 threatens the fundamental notion that the United States must regulate immigration with one voice.”

Senate Bill 4 was supposed to go into effect on March 5 but Judge Ezra made his ruling on February 28.

    Ezra also wrote:

"Finally, the Court does not doubt the risk that cartels and drug trafficking pose to many people in Texas. But as explained, Texas can and does already criminalize those activities. Nothing in this Order stops those enforcement efforts. No matter how emphatic Texas’s criticism of the Federal Governments handling of immigration on the border may be to some, disagreement with the federal government’s immigration policy does not justify a violation of the Supremacy Clause."

Governor Abbott wasn’t pleased by the ruling, but fight the ruling.

Governor Abbott issued a statement after the federal judge's ruling. According to a press release, Governor Abbott said:

"Texas will immediately appeal this decision, and we will not back down in our fight to protect our state—and our nation—from President Biden's border crisis. The President of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting States, including laws already on the books that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants. Texas has the right to defend itself because of President Biden's ongoing failure to fulfill his duty to protect our state from the invasion at our southern border. Even from the bench, this District Judge acknowledged that this case will ultimately be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court."

    On X, Governor Abbott wrote:

“Texas has the constitutional right to defend itself because of President Biden's ongoing failure to fulfill his duty.
We will not back down in our fight to protect Texas.
This case will ultimately be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.”
