There IS a Lot to Do in Alexandria This Spring

I used to think that early spring was a time when not much was happening. We’re waiting for winter to just give up and for the warmer temps to take over and start turning things green again. Then I really started looking around. During this “in-between” season you can do so many things here in the Alexandria Lakes Area.
First, mark it on the calendar. You need to get away from it all and just re-connect and rejuvenate yourself. Whether for a couple days in the middle of the week or an extended weekend getaway, book your room now.
Next, start going through what’s possible. I just visited with Alexandria’s newest indoor golf simulator, “ Hook and Slice .” Its owner, Matt Geiselhart, took a chance, adding a full bar and restaurant to the experience, and is seeing a great start. Not long ago, Micah Cole turned a growing trend, axe throwing, into a fun Alexandria business at Woodsman Axe . He also caters to all kinds of people with the venue and supplies the experience at events all over the area. If your group wants less brawn and more brain, put your thinking caps on with one of the best escape rooms in the Upper Midwest in Escape Room Alexandria .
Right on Broadway Street is the Andria Theatre . It’s part of a very active arts community in Alexandria. This spring, they have three shows coming up, with “The Diary of Ann Frank” in early March and “9 to 5: the Musical” in late April. They added two shows with actors 55 and older. The first has already come and gone with the next one being “Creamed Corn” in mid-March. While we’re talking about the arts, how about painting ideas? Jen Halman took the popularity she’s been experiencing with her business in Australia and opened another “Studio Vino” sip and paint location in Alexandria.
While you’re downtown, you are going to love the downtown vibe, complete with an amazing assortment of boutiques, and several shops with home décor, antiques, and more. A few restaurants are sprinkled in, plus a great little cocktail bar that recently opened up on 6th Avenue East called Tannin and Oak . Another new store on the west side of Broadway is Spice and Tea Exchange.
Speaking of new, we’re excited that the popular D Michael B’s is being replaced by a new restaurant later this spring that gives a nod to the area favorite. D Mike’s Resort Bar and Grille is set to open up before summer in the Viking Plaza Mall. Kohl’s and Sephora will also be opening in the mall in late spring to help add nearby customers.
Outdoors people visiting Andes Tower Hills are still enjoying several feet of man-made snow and all kinds of great temperatures to ski, snowboard, or tube. Everywhere else, the lack of snow is making those early Spring hikes very possible and a great way to experience the 2,400-plus acres of parks in the county. This spring, don’t limit yourself, come Explore Alexandria.
