Hugh Chatham Health team members recently collected food and monetary donations to benefit Tri-County Christian Crisis Ministry (Tri-C) with its “Souper Bowl” event. The annual fundraiser, held during Super Bowl week, invites team members to provide a cash, PTO, or food donation, and in return receive a bowl of soup prepared by the Hugh Chatham Health Café.

Tri-C serves families in need of basic requirements including food, assistance for utilities, medication, and other miscellaneous items. Tri-C serves clients in portions of Surry, Yadkin and Wilkes counties.

The organization’s Best Place to Work Team, which plans events, created the fundraiser in 2020. In the last five years, Hugh Chatham has raised $25,499.41 and collected 6,314 pounds of food for Tri-C. This year, 471 pounds of food was collected and $5,484.00 was raised to benefit the organization, fulfilling the community’s need for the next few months.

Warren Bates, Board Member and former President for Tri-C, said, “With the current inflationary pressures especially as it relates to food, gas, and utilities, families are having to make difficult decisions each day about how to allocate their resources. This contribution will help ease that burden for folks in our community. In addition to our normal distribution of food, we are also supporting the schools in the area with their backpack programs. Many times students receive their one meal per day through the school system. The backpack program allows our students to take food home on the weekends so they have meals while they aren’t at school.”

Josh Vogler, co-chair of the Best Place to Work Team and Wellness Program Leader, said, “This is one of our team’s favorite events of the year. There is always great participation from our entire organization when it comes to food and monetary donations. Our team members take great pride in this event and consider it a privilege to be able to give back to our community.”
