Local area wrestlers from Brooklyn Center/Concordia Academy, Champlin Park, Cooper, Park Center, and Osseo/Maranatha Christian Academy all took part in the state wrestling meet last week, including eight boys and two girls.

    Brooklyn Center/Concordia Academy

The Brooklyn Center/Concordia Academy co-op had four wrestlers reach the Class AA state meet, including Andreas Adamsson, Tim Hubers, August Adamsson and Chyance Henry.

Andreas Adamsson (145) ended his run in the first round of the consolation bracket, losing by technical fall to New Ulm Area’s Winsten Nienhaus.

Hubers (152), August Adamsson (160), and Chyance Henry (285) all also reached the first round of consolation matches. The three each fell short with losses by fall.

    Champlin Park

Champlin Park had all three of its participants in the Class AAA wrestling meet, Alex Gau (114), Isaiah Wright (285), and Christy Ayemere (235), finish sixth and reach the podium to conclude a strong post-season showing from the program.

Gau won his first-round match by decision, before losing to Mounds View’s Brett Swenson in the quarterfinals. He earned two wins in the consolation bracket, one by decision and one by fall, to reach the consolation semifinal, which he lost by decision. He then took on Tyler Chenevert of Farmington in the fifth-place match and lost by a decision to earn sixth.

Wright also had an eventful run through the bracket, winning two consolation matches before taking on Mark Rendl of Forest Lake where he lost by a decision. He then lost his fifth-place match against Centennial’s Marcus Whiting in a rare ultimate tie-breaker.

Aymere made an impressive run in the girls 235 category, responding to a first-round loss with a win over Bemidji’s Brie Leeper. She then faced Minneapolis North’s Aaliyah Azariah in the fifth-place match, which she lost by fall to conclude her season.

    Cooper

Sophomore Folake Olusesi was Cooper’s representative at the state meet, where she wrestled in the girls 190 category and eventually placed fifth in a monumental achievement for both her and the program.

Olusesi opened her tournament with a loss by decision to Apply Valley’s Golirann Vigniavo. She then won her consolation semifinal over Monitcello’s Jasmin Downer with a disqualification. This placed Olusesi in the fifth-place match, which she won by fall against Lily Hamilton of St. Michael-Albertville, clinching a spot on the podium.

    Park Center

Jackson Sanders (152) took part in two matches at the Class AAA portion of the state meet, representing Park Center as their only entrant after a valiant section performance. Sanders lost his opening match by fall to Woodbury’s Brad Little.

Sanders then faced Irondale’s Clayton Solberg in the first round of the consolation bracket, losing by fall. The loss concluded an exciting sophomore season for Sanders.

    Osseo/Maranatha

Jameson Kulseth (139) took part in the Class AAA meet last week, facing Willmar’s Conlan Carlson in a loss by fall to conclude his strong season with the Orioles wrestling team.
