In the early hours of Tuesday morning, tragedy struck in east Las Vegas as a gunman opened fire on a convenience store, leaving two people dead and one injured. The incident, which occurred around 3:25 a.m. on East Tropicana Avenue, has left the community reeling and law enforcement agencies scrambling for answers.

According to reports from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), officers responded to a shotspotter alert from the 5000 block of East Tropicana Avenue. Upon arrival, they found one female victim in her 20s outside the store, suffering from a gunshot wound. Inside the store, a man and another woman, also shot, were discovered.

Tragically, the woman found outside the building succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Despite efforts to save them, the two additional victims, believed to be in their 20s, were unable to survive their wounds. One victim, a male, remains in stable condition at a nearby hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the assailant, described as a Black male wearing a surgical mask, approached the front of the business on a bicycle before opening fire through the open front door. After the attack, he fled the scene, heading eastbound through the parking lot and then eastbound on Tropicana Avenue.

LVMPD Homicide Lieutenant Jason Johansson has urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the shooting. "We really do need the public’s assistance," he stated. "Anyone familiar with this shooting or the details surrounding this shooting, please reach out through homicide.lvmpd.com or Crime Stoppers."

Authorities believe that the incident was targeted, though the motive remains unclear at this time. As investigations continue, a portion of Nellis Boulevard near Tropicana Avenue will remain closed to facilitate the ongoing police investigation.

This senseless act of violence has once again rocked the Las Vegas community, leaving families grieving and residents concerned for their safety. As the authorities work tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrator and bring justice to the victims, the need for community cooperation and support is paramount. Let us stand together in solidarity against such senseless acts and strive for a safer, more peaceful future for all.
