    Green wins commission seat

    Sam C. Green defeated Greg Wright in the Democratic race for the Pike County Commission District 1 seat.

    Green tallied 383 votes to Wright’s 162. Green captured 70.28 percent of the total vote and will be the next District 1 commissioner. Green will have no Republican opposition in the November General Election.

    Overall, at press-time, 26 of the total 36 precincts in Pike County had reported. In the Democratic Primary for the Second Congressional seat, Anthony Daniels lead the field with 58.81 percent of the vote in Pike County. The closest challenger is Shomari Figures with 19.56 percent of the vote. Unofficial state results had Figures led with 40 percent of the vote statewide followed by Daniels with 21 percent.

    In the Republican Primary for the second Congressional District, Dick Brewbaker led the field in Pike County with 47.15 percent of the vote. Caroleen Dobson trailed with 36.53 percent of the vote. Statewide, Greg Albritton was leading the field with 37 percent of the vote, followed by Brewbaker with 32 percent and Dobson with 21 percent. Albritton only had 8.4 percent of the vote in Pike County.

    President Joe Biden led the Democratic field for president with 89 percent of the vote in Alabama. Former President Donald Trump led the Republican field with 83 percent of the vote in Alabama.
