Four individuals have been apprehended by authorities in New York in connection with the discovery of scattered body parts in Babylon, N.Y. over a week.

The Suffolk County Police Department revealed on Wednesday that Steven Brown, 44, Jeffrey Mackey, 38, Amanda Wallace, 40, and Alexis Nieves, 33, have been taken into custody, as reported by PEOPLE magazine.

The suspects are facing charges of hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing a human corpse, according to a statement from the police department.

Last week, a student en route to school discovered a severed left arm near a park, prompting a police response. The student notified her father, who called 911.

Upon arrival, authorities and cadaver dogs located a leg in a pile of leaves nearby, along with a right arm close to where the left arm was found. Police identified the remains as those of a man.

Further findings revealed that a severed head and additional body parts belonged to a woman. Days later, more body parts were found in a park a few miles away, belonging to the same victims as the initial discovery.

This information was relayed in updates from the police department.

Police have identified one of the victims as a 59-year-old woman and have tentatively identified the other victim as a 53-year-old man.

No motive has been announced, and further information about the victims has not been disclosed. The suspects are set to be arraigned on March 6, but it is unknown at this time whether they have legal representation.
