CULPEPER, Va. – On March 7, 2024, the Virginia State Police (VSP) Bureau of Criminal Investigation Culpeper Field Office arrested an organization’s treasurer after financial discrepancies were discovered.

According to an emailed media release from VSP Sergeant Brent W. Coffey, state police received a complaint regarding discrepancies in the financial statements of the Diamond Club, a James Wood High School program that benefits JV and varsity baseball players. The discrepancies occurred between 2016 and 2023, a period during which a Ronda Kay Gross of Winchester was treasurer.

Police initiated an investigation in October 2023, and Gross, 51, turned herself into state police on March 7, 2024. She appeared before the Frederick County Circuit judge, was indicted by a grand jury, and was served with 10 felony counts of embezzlement. Online court records show an amount of more than $1,000 for each count, but a specific total amount has not yet been released.

Gross was released on her recognizance and is again due in court on May 23, 2024. At this time, the investigation remains ongoing.
