Suffolk Va. – The Suffolk Public Works Department announced registration is now open for the 2024 Citizen Academy.

The Citizen Academy offers citizens the unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the inner workings and operations of Suffolk Public Works. Sessions will be broken down to provide an overview of the wide array of services the department provides to the City, from building multimillion dollar infrastructure projects to emptying their trash cans.

The free four-week Citizen Academy will be held on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m., starting April 18 and concluding on May 9 with a graduation ceremony.

This marks the third Citizen Academy hosted by Suffolk Public Works. Academy alumni such as Ms. Karen Damari have expressed their satisfaction, stating, “They wanted to learn about how the city functions. It was above and beyond what they expected!“.

Robert Lewis, Director of Public Works, emphasizes, “This is an opportunity for citizens keen on understanding the reasons behind our processes to talk directly with our team.”

Residents can apply online by visiting www.suffolkva.us/PWAcademy. For more information, they can contact (757) 514-7725 or PWContact@suffolkva.us
