In a trend that has seen various entities in Prince William County succumb to the allure of data center money, the latest addition to the list is Youth For Tomorrow, a well-known local nonprofit dedicated to providing services to at-risk children and teens. The organization recently sold 70 acres, nearly half of its land, to Stack Infrastructure for an impressive $81.3 million.

Stack Infrastructure, a global data center builder, revealed in a press release that this acquisition would facilitate the addition of three more buildings to its seven-building complex on Hornbaker Road, just north of Va. 28. Although the specifics about when the data centers will be constructed remain unknown, the sale marks a significant financial boost for Youth For Tomorrow.

The CEO of Youth For Tomorrow expressed in a press release that the proceeds from the sale "will create a solid future" for the nonprofit, allowing it to continue its crucial work of serving troubled children and teens. However, Youth For Tomorrow officials and Stack have remained tight-lipped about the development timeline for the data centers.

The idea of integrating data centers into the rear of the Youth For Tomorrow campus has been under consideration since April 2019. The nonprofit successfully applied to rezone its 180 acres from agricultural and residential to a planned business park to support the expansion of its school and residential facilities. This rezoning was approved by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in the same year.

The nonprofit, founded in 1983 by Joe Gibbs, the former coach of the Washington Redskins, has evolved significantly over the years. From opening its doors in 1986 as a home for four boys, it now hosts 125 boys and girls as residents, serving an additional 89 students in grades seven to 12 through its school. The organization also runs programs for youths battling substance use disorders, trafficked girls, and pregnant teens.

Youth For Tomorrow's financial landscape reveals its commitment to its mission. In 2021, the organization received $22.6 million from government grants, and with the recent $81.3 million windfall, the future appears promising for Youth For Tomorrow as it continues its dedication to children and families in crisis.
