Discussing her decision to remove her breast implants during her conversation with hosts, former fashion designer and entrepreneur Mary Alice Haney and board-certified OB/GYN Dr. Thais Aliabadi, who’s client list includes SZA as well as Rihanna and Khloe Kardashian , SZA revealed that her mother's breast cancer diagnosis and her aunt undergoing a mastectomy were major contributing factors. She recalled learning she has a 53% lifetime risk of developing the disease because of her family history.

Something she didn’t really worry about or understand the risk of until she attempted to get breast implants, and dealt with fibrosis, the thickening and scarring of connective tissue in her breasts. “When I got my boobs done, my doctor took out some of my fibrosis, but.. there was so much fibrosis, it was crazy," she said on the show. “And he took it out. And so, when I went back, a lot of the concerns were gone.”

She added, “I like seeing somebody spiritual about it, specifically the breast cancer situation and the marker before I had the results of the biopsy and all that, I had talked to somebody, because I was like, I got to figure out what's going on in the higher realms.”

Admitting to Dr. Aliabadi that she was supposed to see a doctor before she got her implants, due to her higher risk of breast cancer, the singer confessed she “snuck and got it anyways.”

“I have markers in my breast, like metal markers in my breast for these fibrosis, for these lumps or whatever, I'm not supposed to be getting breast implants,” she explained. Which is ultimately what led to the singer to have them removed.

“So basically, I put them in. They ended up hurting me,” she said. “I got way too much scar tissue because my breasts are too dense and I'm not supposed to have breast implants. And so I ended up getting extra fibrosis like with tissue, whatever, and I didn't feel good and it was painful. So, I took them out, and now, they're just my boobs.”

During the rest of their chat, SZA also discussed her career, creative process, and heartbreak that inspires her music. She also dished about awards season, comparing the flawless Oscars to the more laid-back GRAMMYs. The singer investigated personal challenges and triumphs, got introspective, opened up about her path to self-acceptance and shared the ways she’s learned to integrate the necessary strength and protective edge that makes her, “not a nice girl.” To hear it all, listen to SZA’s entire conversation on SHE MD above.
