Strawberry picking season opens in Beaufort, SC

It’s finally here! Local strawberries are just about ready and it’s about time to go and enjoy a taste of spring, Beaufort-style. Barefoot Farms on St. Helena Island opened up on Friday, March 8th, and Dempsey Farms Strawberry U Pick fields will be opening up for the season in about a week.

Both will have limited days over the next week or so until the season is in full swing.

Opening slightly later than usual due to cold weather, strawberry season kicks off one of the favorite times of the year for many locals, spanning a few generations.

There’s nothing like grabbing the kids and going for a drive down Sea Island Parkway on St.Helena Island and pulling up to the familiar big foot at Barefoot Farms or the red & white sign at Dempsey's.

A trip to our sea island u-pick strawberry fields is a rite of passage for many of Beaufort’s kids…and plenty of adults, as well as our visitors. Grabbing a bucket and venturing out into the fields in search of the perfect strawberry is a springtime favorite in these parts.

Barefoot Farms is located at 939 Sea Island Parkway, and Dempsey Farms Strawberry U Pick fields are located at 1576 Sea Island Parkway, both on St. Helena Island.
