CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Bryce Heard scored 21 points and Jayden Tyler added 15 to lead Homewood-Flossmoor to a 60-48 win over Normal Community in the class 4A state basketball title game at State Farm Center on Saturday night.

The Vikings grabbed the lead late in the first quarter and held it the rest of the game on the way to capturing the school’s first ever state basketball championship. Homewood-Flossmoor (33-4) was making its first state appearance since 2006.

Braylon Roman scored 18 to lead the Ironmen (32-6), who were hampered when 6-10 center Jaheem Webber picked up his second foul in the second quarter. The Ironmen trimmed a 16-point second-half deficit to nine but could not catch the Vikings.

Normal earned its second runner-up trophy, matching the finish of the 2015 team. Noah Cleveland scored 13 for the Ironmen, who have now earned three state trophies since 2011.

There will be a rally to welcome the Ironmen home at 2 p.m. Sunday at the High School.
