A very active storm cycle is underway in the Pacific Northwest and BC. Whistler is reporting 2 feet in the past 24-48 hours. Mt Baker is reporting 18 inches in 24 hours. Strong winds kept most of the upper terrain at Whistler closed on Saturday.

Areas in interior BC have seen lower snow totals. Snow will continue at Whislter through Tuesday, with an additional 12-17 inches likely through Tuesday morning. The Cascades in Washington and Oregon all stay in the flow with northern areas favored (Mt Baker).  Central and southern regions do better Sunday-Tuesday.

Temps will gradually fall through the storm cycle in the Cascades with improving quality through Tuesday. Winds increase Monday night for the Cascades.

This low-pressure system tracks through Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Utah by Tuesday-Wednesday. Areas of northern and western Idaho could do well including the Teton Range with an excess of a foot of snow. The Wasatch range scores later Tuesday to Wednesday. The Cottonwoods might benefit from some lake effect.

The big news is and the question is where does this low set up after moving south from Utah over the 4 corners? Some spots in Colorado or New Mexico might grab big snow totals.

Models are hinting at a closed low scenario (Stationary front) that stalls out in New Mexico. Depending on the location of the stalled low, significant snow totals may wrap around into the Front Range of Colorado with upslope flow. New Mexico and southern Colorado might also be scoring.

Some models are depicting upwards of 2 feet of snow for the Front Range Foothills and Divide area mountains of Colorado. It is too early to forecast but our confidence is high for some decent totals in Colorado, especially near the Divide. Areas further west and north will also see snowfall. New Mexico is also well in the hunt.

Low pressure nearly stationary for several days next week (Wednesday night to Friday) before dropping further south.

European model displaying some hefty snow totals later next week for the Front Range of Colorado and eastern plains. The southern and northern San Juan Range also looks healthy for snowfall. Models this far out are likely to change, but confidence is decent for a decent storm mid to late next week.

Weather forecasting is like baseball! If you hit three out of ten throws you are a hero, if you get one strom right out of ten you get an award? So play the odds and get a annual pay raise to boot!

I'd like a job in forecasting weather. It appears that you can be wrong 75% of the time and still keep your job.
