Cuyahoga County, OH. - It's Primary Election 2024. Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, to cast their ballot. Candidates are gearing up to make those final robocalls, mailers, and door knocks, arrange poll workers' delivery of yard signs, and prepare for victory parties; some will win while others lose. However, those candidates and their team members will campaign until the last second of the day

Silly Season of Politics is Here

When we thought this group of candidates was a bit more sophisticated and mature, the tantrums started.

Ohio House District 21 candidate Angel Washington is in a heated three-way race. Three Democrats, Elliot Forhan, Angel Washington, and Eric Synenberg, are vying to be victorious on March 19, 2024.

None received the Democratic Party's endorsement because 60% is needed to secure it. However, first-time candidate Washington received the most Democratic votes for the party endorsement at 57.9%. With two more votes from the floor, she would have been successful. Washington is an executive committee member and precinct person for the democrat party, advocate, and business owner. This is her first race as a candidate, but she is not new to Ohio's politics.

"Every day, I check on my campaign material in the community: yard signs, mailers, literature. Well, the time has come. Today, I noticed that one of my banners has vanished. It's funny that my banner is missing nine days before the primary. I know banners don't get up and walk—there are no legs. People call this the "silly season" of politics," stated candidate Washington while laughing.

Season politics know this tactic all too well. They are accustomed to signs disappearing in the middle of the night and opponents' campaign team members hiding in bushes waiting to steal yard signs, not to mention those nasty mailers filled with allegations and half-truths. And while voters must deal with the nonsense of political immaturity and try to make sense out of nonsense, candidates who try to run fair campaigns must endure financial losses, campaign mishaps, and ill-tactics of cowardly opponents who cannot campaign on their records.

Washington says the missing banner was placed near 260th and Euclid Ave. "I am not discouraged. I am more encouraged now. We will campaign until the very last moment," says Washington.

The primary election is on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. The polls are open from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm.
