Understanding the prominence of Jesus’ resurrection is essential for our spiritual growth. The resurrection is the ultimate demonstration of God’s power over death and sin. The resurrection reminds us that no matter what we face, we have a Savior who has overcome the world, death, hell, and the grave. Let’s consider His resurrection more deeply.

The resurrection of Jesus is proof that He is who He claims. The disciples saw the resurrection as a seal of approval for everything Jesus said. Before this event, God had referred to Jesus as His beloved son, in whom He was well pleased. After being raised from death, Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High. Furthermore, Jesus’ resurrection fulfilled all the prophecies He had given.

Jesus’ resurrection proves that the price for our sins is fully paid. Through the resurrection, God demonstrated that Jesus’ sacrifice was accepted and more than enough to pay the penalty for our sin debt. In the New Testament, Jesus establishes the resurrection as more than an event but rather something He embodies. Jesus said in John 11:25, “I am the Resurrection.” This pronouncement by Jesus is the scriptural foundation for assurance as believers.

The resurrection of Jesus is proof of the importance of His teachings. Since Jesus is the only one whom God has raised from the dead who did not again die, we can be assured that what He said is true and forms the foundation for everything we believe. Jesus raised a ruler’s daughter. He raised a widow’s son. Jesus raised Lazarus.

These were temporal resurrections; these people would all die in the future. However, Jesus rose from death to die no more. Again, Jesus said in John 11:25 that He was both the Resurrection and Life. The Greek word for “The Life” means the absolute fullness of life, both integral and righteous, both belonging to God and through Him both to the hypostatic “logos” and to Christ in whom the “logos” put on human nature.

Paul addressed this vital principle by stating that the Church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus being the chief cornerstone. As the cornerstone is the most essential part of a building, Jesus’ teachings should serve as the foundation for our beliefs. We must ensure everything we believe is in harmony with Jesus’ words.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ sets Him apart from any other human. Jesus is alive and active. This fact was true in the past, remains true today, and will continue to be true in the future. As Paul clarifies, Jesus is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He has preeminence.

Understanding the significance of Jesus’ resurrection is vital for our spiritual development. The resurrection exemplifies God’s ultimate power over death and sin. It reminds us that, regardless of our challenges, we have a Savior who has triumphed over death, making the believer “more than a conqueror” through Christ.
