    Defiance common pleas

    John Chapman, 40, Bryan, appeared for sentencing on a charge of domestic violence, a third-degree felony. He was placed on community control for three years with conditions, including that he complete the SEARCH program in Bowling Green, and have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family except as necessary to effectuate a court order. Chapman caused, or attempted to cause, physical harm to a family or household member on Oct. 9, having had three prior domestic violence convictions.

    Mitchell Joyce, 33, 2020 Baltimore St., appeared for sentencing on a charge of escape, a fifth-degree felony. He was placed on community control for two years with conditions, including that he not possess or use cannabis, and complete the SEARCH program in Bowling Green. On June 27, Joyce was taken into custody following an incident on Defiance’s East Second Street, then fled from the arresting officer before being pursued and apprehended by law enforcement.

    Christopher Tinsley Jr., 27, 1939 E.Second St., appeared for sentencing on two counts of aggravated possession of drugs, each a fifth-degree felony. He was placed on community control for two years with conditions, including that he not possess or use cannabis.

    Ethan Utley, 27, Montpelier, was found competent to stand trial on three counts of non-support of dependents, each a fifth-degree felony. He was placed on community control for three years with conditions, including that he not consume or possess cannabis and comply with all orders of the Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency.

    Michael Kaufman, 32, Stryker, pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, each a first-degree felony. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for April 3 and bond was set at $1 million with a 10% allowance provision.

    Nicole Wade, 39, 19906 Ohio 111, pleaded not guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for March 14 and bond was set at $25,000 with a 10% allowance provision.

    Eric Waltner, 28, New Palestine, Ind., pleaded no contest to carrying a concealed weapon, a second-degree misdemeanor, and was found guilty. He was placed on probation for one year and given a suspended 90-day sentence at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio while a firearm and ammunition seized in the investigation were ordered forfeited to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
